Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve is the biggest protected natural area of Peru; it has an extension of 2'080,000 Ha. and is located in the Amazon Region, between the Marañon and Ucayali Rivers. Its access is only possible by river.

The Reserve is also called “the mirror jungle” as it is clearly reflected in the dark waters of its rivers providing the visitor an endless feeling of being sailing on mirrors.

The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve is really appreciated for its great biodiversity of flora and fauna and its incomparable natural beauty. In this regard, the Reserve becomes a potential source for wildlife research and observation, mainly of certain endangered species. However, the Pacaya-Samiria is not only a National Reserve but also a great magic and unexplored territory that you are invited to discover as it provides exciting adventures once you are immersed in it.

Trekking and fishing are some of the activities that you can do, since you will be able to watch a wide variety of mammal such as the river lion or the Ronsoco (the biggest rodent of the world) and a number of species of monkeys such as the Black Spider Monkey or the Choro Monkey. Likewise, there are more than 350 bird species such as Toucans and Macaws; and a wide variety of flora as the Lupuna tree, which is until 160 ft height and a 10 ft of diameter.

Its rivers, lakes and lagoons provide more than 250 species such as the paiche, the biggest fresh water fish, which may weight until 250 pounds and have 9ft long, as well as the gray and pink colored dolphins, including two turtle species.
